Florida Psychoanalytic Center

Beginner and Intermediate Clinical Consultation Group

June 10, 2024

Dates: February 23, 2024 – March 29, 2024

Frequency and Time: The group will meet on Fridays from 1:30 pm – 3 pm and will run for 6 consecutive weeks.

Participants: The group will have a maximum of 6 participants.

Facilitator: Gretchen Suarez, LMHC

Facilitator Bio: Gretchen is a licensed mental health counselor in private practice. Currently, she is an advanced candidate at the Florida Psychoanalytic Institute. In addition to her clinical practice, Gretchen is recognized as a qualified supervisor by the state of Florida and provides clinical supervision and consultation for clinicians aiming to integrate a psychoanalytic approach into their patient work. Her focus is to help patients identify self-limiting patterns, heal from past experiences, and gain insight into how the unconscious mind influences their behavior.

Focus of the Group: This group is tailored to both beginner and intermediate licensed mental health clinicians interested in developing their own authentic approach to psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Throughout the six weeks, we will examine our unique perspectives regarding psychoanalytic treatment, including the frame, the consultation period, and the establishment of an analytically-oriented therapeutic alliance. We will also reflect upon the theoretical framework(s) we use in our psychoanalytic work with patients in an effort to better assess how we can develop an analytic identity that feels authentic to the clinician and deepens our work with patients. Each week, one participant will also be asked to present session material from a patient whom they have worked with in the past or are currently seeing. These case presentations will serve as an excellent opportunity to explore and discuss the multiple ways psychoanalytic therapy can be approached, as well as offer all participants the opportunity to self-reflect on the development of their professional identity.
