SUMMARY:Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Course: When Guilt and Envy Enter the Space Between
DESCRIPTION:Instructors: Alessandra Barroso\, L.M.H.C. \nWhat happens when envy and guilt enter the space between patient and therapist? Drawing on the work of Bion\, Steiner\, Ogden\, Bollas\, and other contemporary object relations theorists\, this class will explore how these powerful affects shape—and sometimes disrupt—the therapeutic relationship. Through rich clinical materials we will explore how these dynamics may be communicated and enacted between patient and therapist\, how they shape the therapeutic experience\, and how the therapist can think about and work with what emerges in the space between. Particular attention will be given to the tensions between wanting and receiving\, attacking and preserving\, dependence and autonomy\, and guilt and reparation.

SUMMARY:Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Course: Case Presentation: Technique Across the Arc of Psychoanalytic Treatment
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Gretchen Suarez\, L.M.H.C. \nThis class presents a detailed reading of a clinical case drawn fro the instructor’s board certification portfolio. Students will follow the treatment across the full are\, with attentional to how theoretical understanding and clinical technique live together in practice – not in isolated vignettes  but across the sustained relationship between patient and therapist over time. The case will serve as a vehicle for examining how core concepts from across the year – listening\, countertransference\, transference\, enactment\, rupture and repair – operate in a real complex clinical relationship.

SUMMARY:Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Course: When Less in More: Working From Reverie and the Power of the Brief Intervention
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Eugenio Duarte\, Ph.D. \nThis class explores the clinical power of restraint – of doing more by saying less. Rather than intervening with questions or synthesizing commentary\, the therapist attends more closely to internal states and feee-flowing reverie\, allowing words to come from a place of inspiration rather then effort. What emerges is naturally briefer – less about organizing what the patient has said and more about pressing a finger on what is most alive in the room. This approach requires tolerance for uncertainty and trust in the patient’s capacity to hear below the surface of words. Students will be invited to examine moments in their own work where less might have opened more.

SUMMARY:Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Course: Countertransference: Diagnostic Use and Clinical Intervention
DESCRIPTION:Instructors: Adriana Rosen\, Ph.D.\, Shirley Malove\, Ph.D. \nThis class will focus on countertransference as one of the most powerful and often underutilized tools in psychodynamic technique. This class will address how to recognize and metabolize the therapist’s own emotional responses – using them diagnostically as a window into the patient’s internal world and the dynamic of the therapeutic relationship. Co-taught by two experienced clinicians\, the class will model collegial clinical thinking and draw on rich case material to illustrate how countertransference\, when understood and held thoughtfully\, deepens the therapist’s capacity to listen\, formulate and intervene effectively. \n
