Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Course: Self Psychology in the Room: Recognizing Selfobject Transference and Responding Clinically

This class introduces students to self psychology with an emphasis on clinical application After brief grounding in Kohut’s core ideas, the focus will shift to technique: how do yo9u recognize selfobject transferences as they emerge, what does the patient need from you in those moments, and how do you respond in ways that are therapeutically effective? Readings will draw on Kohut and contemporaneous self psychology theorists. Students will be invited to bring cases in which narcissistic themes are prominent.
