Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Course: Countertransference: Diagnostic Use and Clinical Intervention

This class will focus on countertransference as one of the most powerful and often underutilized tools in psychodynamic technique. This class will address how to recognize and metabolize the therapist’s own emotional responses – using them diagnostically as a window into the patient’s internal world and the dynamic of the therapeutic relationship. Co-taught by two experienced clinicians, the class will model collegial clinical thinking and draw on rich case material to illustrate how countertransference, when understood and held thoughtfully, deepens the therapist’s capacity to listen, formulate and intervene effectively.
